I was born in Houston, Texas, and have always called Katy my hometown, that is until I came to Foundation as pastor in July 2016. My wife, Rebecca, and my two daughters, Addison and Olivia, along with myself immediately felt at home among this family of faith. We look forward to many years of service and ministry here in the Temple/Belton area.
I earned a bachelors degree from the University of Houston in 2002, and my M. Div degree at Perkins School of Theology in 2009. Among the gifts and graces God has blessed me with are a strong emphasis on relationship building and a "people first" ministry focus. I've also been told I have a wicked sense of humor, and try to live up to that reputation with shenanigans and general mischief making.
I grew up in Central Missouri and came to know Christ when I was eight. My mom was always adamant about going to church, therefore I got to see God work in my life and be involved in a great youth group. I sensed God calling me to full-time ministry when I was in high school, and accepted that calling whole-heartedly. I went to Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO and majored in Biblical Studies. During college I met my wonderful wife Katie, and we were married in May 2004. In the fall of 2005 I started seminary at George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco, TX. I graduated with my Master's of Divinity in May 2009 and started working at Foundation in August 2009.
I have a passion for students to know Jesus Christ for all that He is worth! I desire to focus my life on teaching, discipling, and leading students to rely on God's Word, the Holy Spirit, and a faithful Christian community. As a youth group, we spend a lot of time learning about God, how to live out our faith daily, and how to have a lot of fun! If you are a student come check us out anytime!
Being on staff at Foundation has been a homecoming for me....in more ways than one. I was born and raised here in Temple, moving back a few years ago after more than 30 years away, coming home to the house I grew up in. I accepted Christ as my saviour at an early age, was active in a local church and then felt called into special ministry as a teenager. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Howard Payne University, with a major in Christian Ministries and a minor in Bible. My spiritual journey has taken many turns over the years....leading me to claim Jeremiah 29:11 as my life verse: "I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to "come home" to my calling by ministering to the ministers and supporting the mission of Foundation in becoming more Christlike and growing God's kingdom. I have been on staff since July of 2008 and look forward to many more years of service with this vibrant congregation.
I have an only son who lives in Tucson, Arizona...along with an only granddaughter (pictured)..
I've always been passionate about working with children, and the opportunity to serve as Children's Director is a dream come true. I was born in Austin to a retired Navy chief and 4'10" of feisty Irish mom. My parents were Sunday School teachers and sacrificed a lot to send me to Windsor Park and then Hyde Park Baptist schools. I can't begin to thank them enough for this strong spiritual foundation. It has gotten me through many trials and has led me home when I strayed. It's my goal to provide such care and support to the children of Foundation UMC!
I attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, where I received my BA in English with a minor in Religion in 2003. I earned my Masters from NYIT in 2006. My husband, Steve, is my best friend and the funniest guy you'll ever meet (just ask him). I'm a proud stepmom to Jared and Ryan, and a delighted mother to our little Mindy. I'm blessed to live the life I lead and give thanks to God for His firm direction in my life.
My passion is to lead others to intimately connect with God and others; to live a victorious, anointed life of faith in Christ vs a defeated life in the "survival mode" and to base every decision in my life on the Word of God. My purpose in life is to share Jesus and glorify the Father. My spiritual gifts are encouragement and teaching. I want to say or do only what God inspires and anoints. My music abilities include worship leader, songwriter, vocal, piano, organ, guitar, melodica; traditional hymns and contemporary; private music teacher; private Christian and public school music teacher experience.
I was raised in a happy, Christian home and accepted Christ as my Savior at age 9. I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with my Music degree. I have one son, Jacob. He is a Naval officer and lives with his wife, Trish in Florida. I'm married James Rogers. He has four children and 8 grandchildren. I feel honored and blessed to be a part of the Foundation family.
My wife, Gayla, and I have been married since July of 1976. We have three daughters, Lucia Rossman (College Station), Loren Hamson (Temple) and Leah Alvarez (Belton). We have seven grandchildren. Gayla and I moved to Temple in 1983 and joined Foundation in September of 1998. I have recently retired from the Telegram after 30 years, with the final 14 as the Business Manager. Gayla just recently retired from Scott & White, where she worked in Interventional Radiology. She had been employed there since 1982.
